Creating Content

Initial Learnings And A Jazz Song

happy friday!

I started making content recently. The catalyst was two-fold:

  1. I’ve spent too many hours watching short-form videos over the past 18 months

  2. I go on walks around downtown San Francisco frequently, and think about stuff, so I might as well record and share it

Getting started was pretty simple. iPhone, a stick to hold it, and Capcut for video editing. I’d ideate, write out an outline, then just film one-take with a DJI microphone.

The benefit of living in the current digital era is the barrier to entry of creation is extremely low. The disadvantage is with lower barrier to entry, creates more competition and crowdedness.

I justify this by saying, I’m creating for art-sake, not for specifically attention or revenue, which is akin to a more business mindset. This is not to say that attention is not important, but it isn’t what I’m strictly optimizing for, but rather creating videos I would enjoy watching myself.

It’s a funny distinction. Creating art for arts-sake vs. for the customer. Blurred lines between them.

Otherwise, will try it out for a few weeks than go from there. Still in search of life’s work. It either may be this content, or something else. Open-mindedness is quite literally front of mind.
